What this site is
FreshDeal Flyers tracks how grocery and restaurant prices are changing where you live, using the Consumer Price Index the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes. We do not publish store flyers or coupons.
Each data page shows one area. For food at home, food overall and food away from home it gives the latest published month, the change over 12 months, and a table of the last 24 published months. Every figure is read from the series record named in that page's source line.
What an index is, and how to compare
An index measures price change. Compare the changes between areas, never the index levels. The index level depends on a base period that differs from one series to the next, so an index level from one area cannot be compared with an index level from another.
The 12-month change can be compared. It is computed from two records of the same series exactly 12 months apart. Where either month is not published, the change is shown as not available. It is never estimated or filled in.
Which areas are covered
The source data holds 47 CPI areas: the U.S. city average, the four regions, the census divisions inside those regions, two size classes of urban area, and every metro area the Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes these three food indexes for. This site gives each of the 23 metro areas its own page. The other 20 areas are listed with the same figures on the metro area list and the regions page.
Where the data comes from
U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Consumer Price Index (CPI-U, not seasonally adjusted): food, food at home and food away from home for every published CPI area (U.S., regions, size classes, metro areas)
These are price indexes for whole metro areas, not prices at any particular store.

This site's copy of the data was fetched on 28 September 2026. The month shown on a page is the latest month published for that area, which can be earlier than the fetch date. The earliest month in this copy is January 2016.
The fetch manifest records 141 series, 47 areas and 13,366 monthly observations, with no month counted as zero where the source published nothing.
What was here before
Earlier versions of this site published material that was not drawn from any real source. That material has been removed and replaced with the Consumer Price Index figures you see now.
